Chui Sun’s Family Portraits

Portraits

Chui Sun’s about to give birth in a couple of weeks time and before she does, I had the opportunity of capturing her in ‘maternity mode’ together with her husband Henry and their son, Donald. The shoot was at their family home and on that day itself, whilst driving to their house it started to drizzle. I vividly recall doing a mental ‘sun dance’ and sure enough! Once I was near their house the rain stopped. Somebody up there loves me ;) Yay!

Despite the humidity, Chui Sun and her ‘boys’ were absolute troopers throughout our session. I found it absolutely hilarious that Donald was fidgeting throughout the whole session and refused to look at the camera most of the time. I always love a challenge and with abit of patience and A LOT of baby talk, we managed to get shots of lil’ Donald looking absolutely happy. Happy babies make me happy :D

Hehehe….a fave of mine. Donald looks adorable here!

Yes, I know the shot isn’t focused properly. But I love, love the feel of it :D It makes me feel warm and snuggly inside :)

This is a favourite of mine too. Chui Sun, I think you look absolutely beautiful :)

Ok ok. THIS is my utmost favourite shot from the session. They’re such a happy family :)

Chui Sun, thanks again for having me shoot your maternity and family portraits for you. It was an absolute pleasure to meet you, Henry and Donald. All the best with your latest addition to the family too :)

Away On A Break

Personal

The past couple of weeks has been absolutely crazy.

Shoots throughout weekends, midnight editing marathon sessions, working out, meeting couples, sourcing new suppliers – I wanted to do it all. Wanted to do it all to the point where I’ve only been getting an average of four to five hours of sleep a night.

But I’m not complaining. I’m just writing this down to remind myself that though I absolutely love what I’m doing now and think that it all can be done, a break needs to be taken. A break to refresh myself, to work those kinks outta my body, to clear up my mind, body and soul……oh yes, I am super cliche.

I’ll be outta town in a couple of hours for a short break and I’ll be back next Tues. At the same time, I’m already anticipating coming back refreshed and recharged for I’ll be shooting quite a number of awesome people in the coming weeks. Can’t wait!

Till then, live long and prosper…….been wanting to use that line for a blog post for awhile now ;p

I’ll be checking my emails regularly. So just drop me an email if you can’t reach me via my cell. Ta!

Julie Woon – Portraits for Blogger Boy

Portraits

A new TV series called Blogger Boy will be airing on 8TV come May 28, 2009 and I recently had the pleasure of shooting portraits of actress Julie Woon for the show.

Some of the below shots will be further edited by an animator who’ll add in some additional ‘characters’ and it’ll featured in one of the episodes where Julie’s character will have her self-portraits showcased in an exhibition. These were shot a couple of weeks back with conceptualisation from Bernard Chauly and wardrobe by Daniel Henry.

Can’t wait to see what they’re gonna do with the pics on that episode :)

Edit (July 27, 2009): Ok so I recently noticed that there were a lot of google searches for ‘Julie Woon’, ‘Julie Hoi’ and when I checked it was because pictures of her clad in lingerie were put online not too long ago. Well, sorry to disappoint those who got here instead. No lingerie shots here, no nudity, no sexiness – so move along, move along.

And I don’t mean to spam you, but if you get a chance, my blog is up for Best Parenting and I’d love your vote! http://bloggerschoiceawards.com/blogs/show/75335

  5. K says:

i just love all your work…

  6. Grace Tan says:

Great job. You’ll enjoy watching the series. I already had a sneak preview of ep1-4 at my sister’s place. :) A semi wedding photography themed show too… ehhe.

  7. Sze Ning says:

How exciting! Your debut on TV as a photog :)

  8. obefiend says:

not loving these shots. most of them are badly composed and amateurish in nature. especially the one with the dart board. the only one is okay-ish in my eyes is the bottom most picture. even that is derivative in nature. good luck and improve your technique

  9. Biskut Mary ... says:

    Dear Anna,

Nice pictures, totally love the shots and its been a true eye opener for me as I look at your portraits…very well done…

And as for our friend, firstly…as a person who just comes and use big words to explain photography, I give kudos to you…but as a critic…hmmmm, I doubt it la yeah….if you have the experience and show the whole world that you are DAMN good then you cant talk like that yeah…..anyway bro I did see ur DA pictures…so you keep up the good work yeah, make sure you take more pictures…..and make sure you know the true meaning of “derivative in nature” first yeah…chiow !

  10. Malek M. says:

Just wanted to drop a note back to OBEFIEND : you are talking rubbish.

It’s perfectly OK for you not to like the photos and to offer an opinion on lighting or composition etc, but these would be *your* opinions only. What makes you competent to judge the quality of Anna’s work with needless personal comments like that? Photography, like art is subjective. Everyone see’s the world in a different spectrum of colours and shades and there are enough people who think Anna’s work is outstanding.

  11. michael says:

This Julie Woon… used to be called Julie Hoi. Why the name change? Perhaps she got married?? Anyway, the pictures are very nice! 5 stars…

  12. mior says:

    Hi Anna,

    Wow! Love your perspective girl..beautiful! it’s really inspired me ya..well done..!Hopefully we can meet up… Chill… :)

  14. ray says:

    good job…

  15. julie says:

hey michael: i didn’t get married hence the name change. it’s more of a stage name.. and woon is my mother’s maiden name . =)

  16. |v@n says:

like the composition as well as the bokeh.. very artful and nicely done…

btw.. its also great to see Julie maturing in both the industry and outlook. IMHO, in terms of natural beauty, she’s so much more prettier now. Wasn’t a fan during her pagent days.. but am one now :).. experts will tell you that in photography, less is more.. you can see how true this is in the above photos..

  17. |v@n says:

    hi anna,

may i enquire which lens you’re using for these shots? are you using the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM or the EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM?
