My site was nominated for Best Photography Blog!

Welcome to Anna-Rina’s blogsite (yes, it’s a blog AND a website). I’m a wedding and lifestyle portrait photographer based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

I have had experience covering weddings & portrait sessions not only all over Malaysia but also at overseas locations such as Perth, Singapore, Bali and Krabi. As cliched as this may sound, I feel blessed to have a career that I love with absolute passion as it allows me to meet people from all sorts of background, capturing them at the happiest and most memorable moments of their lives.

This blogsite also serves as a personal journal on my daily (mis)adventures not only as a photographer but as a daughter, friend and workout enthusiast (I’ve even got a separate blog dedicated to tracking my daily workouts. Yes, workout junkie I am >.<)

Do scroll through the above navigation bar to get more details on the photography services that I provide and check out the below blog posts which showcases some of my favourite photos from recent wedding and lifestyle portrait sessions.

Feel free to leave a comment and share some love in this lil’ blogosphere of mine. At least I would know I’m not talking to myself ;) Then again, I do that quite often…..I kid, I kiiid. Have an awesome day ahead and thanks again for dropping by!

At the Park

Took a short break from editing for a breather at the park;
- Jogged 2.2km in 12 mins break 2 minutes before continuing for another 1km which took approx 7 mins. Yes, extremely slow I know -____-”
- 30 pull ups (chest to bar) to cover for today’s pull up challenge from Pushmore. Broke it down into 5’s and 3’s. Gotta watch out for the alignment of my wrists when doing this.
- 100 sit ups in 3:50

WOD04292009

Breakfast: Bun & juice (and a bowl of tau foo far in the middle of the shoot)
Lunch: Assorted dishes at White Elephant (client bought me lunch after our shoot. thx! Yay!)
Post workout: A pack of Justea and a can of 100 Plus as well as half a donut :p
Late dinner: 6 pieces of sushi

Gotta start eating regular hours. Had to rush to meet a client after my workout and by the time I had dinner, I was starving 0.o

21-15-9 of:
Double KB Thrusters @ 20kg
Pull Ups
Results: 12:39 (BB 45lbs, CTB)
The thrusters left me absolutely breathless. Did the pull-ups chest to bar as I had missed two days of the pull-up challenge. Eeeks. After finishing the workout I realised I was supposed to upp my weights, but I think I’ll do that when my shoulders feel stronger :p

WOD 042809
Five rounds for time of:
21 Sumo Deadlift Highpulls @ 32kg
21 Ring Dips
Results: 15:05 (24kg, RD+B)
This workout was fun! But I had to do the ring dips on blue band as my left shoulder still feels sore. I’ll lay off doing shoulder workouts for the next couple of days just to let it rest. Hope it’ll get better by next week >.<

Urgh. Unanchored sit ups suck. Big time.

Nathan & Stephanie: Portraits

I didn’t have the opportunity to meet Nathan and Stephanie before their wedding day as they’re based in Sydney and I, in Kuala Lumpur (d-uh!). So, throughout my journey to Krabi from Kuala Lumpur a day before their wedding ceremony, I had butterflies in my stomach (albeit small butterflies, more like cocoons I guess you could say) - wondering whether or not they would like me in person, whether or not they were ‘cool’, how the venue would be, whether or not they would get my stupid jokes, wondering how open they would to be to having a photographer who likes eating with her mouth wide open, etc.

And you know what? All that worrying was for naught cos when I met them, they blew me away with their laidback Ozzie personality, great hospitality and (yes I’ll sound extremely superficial for saying this but I can’t help it!) drop dead gorgeous looks ;)

Arriving in the afternoon a day before the wedding, we had the opportunity for a quick portrait session off the beach of Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas during sunset. I love having portrait sessions with my couples before their wedding day as this gives us a chance to connect and for them to experience what it’s like to be in front of my lens.

Despite never having done a portrait session before, Nate and Steph were absolute naturals and they rocked the session out with some good lovin’! I had so many favourite shots to choose from but I limited myself for fear of bursting the bandwidth!

So before I bore you away with my endless raving about how great Nate and Steph are, here are some of my fave shots from the session. Enjoy!

Can somebody say HAWT?

The moving deck was a source of amusement (not to mention bane :p) for many

I think Steph looks absolutely gorgeous here. Nate’s not too shabby as well ;)
And check out the heart-shaped leaves! How befitting eh?

Stay tuned for I’ll be blogging pictures from their wedding day soon!

Joanne’s Family Portraits

I love it whenever I get to shoot familiar faces again and having met Joanne (who’s May Sun’s sister in law) during May Sun’s family portrait session, I was ecstatic to have the opportunity to shoot Joanne’s family :)

Headed over to her condo on a surprisingly windy day and had tons of fun throughout the session. Joanne and her hubby are huuuuge fans of Liverpool so they requested for a shot where they and their son are decked out in Liverpool kit.

When I saw Joanne’s son in his Liverpool kit, I said that it looked absolutely cute. Joanne jokingly (I think ;p) replied me, “I always tell my friends that my son has a choice in choosing his own religion, but when it comes to football, he’s born into the team”. LOLOLOL!! That cracked me up!

Joanne, thanks again for inviting me over! Your family members are sooo accommodating, made the shoot a breeze. And your son? He cracks me up with his many different expressions :D Here are some of my favourite shots from the day :)

Y’know what? I think if I ever had a picture of this with my parents, I would be looking at it with fond memories as to how cool and silly my parents can get ;D Hope Jared will feel the same way too.

What A Day!

It has been a loooooooong day which started at 7 am after getting 4 hours plus of sleep the night before. Felt knackered by 4pm but due to the strong cuppa coffee I had, was itching to workout as well. Tsk tsk tsk. Headed over to PM after meeting a client in the aftn and killed myself over three workouts. Am I happy!?!? :p

I’ve got a MOUNTAIN of pictures to post-process from the last 8 days of shoots and a number of shots which I can’t wait to share on the blog. But I think that’ll have to wait till tomm as my laundry needs to be done pronto before I pass out for the day. Ye Gads!

Breakfast: A pack of Jacob’s biscuits
Lunch: Lamb chops with veggies, muffin, lemonade and cappuccino
Post-workout: A scoop of protein and 2 cans of 100 Plus
Dinner: Half a bowl of rice with broccoli, chicken, steamed egg and coconut drink

In 15 minutes, do as many reps as possible of:
Single Hand Kettlebell Clean & Jerk
*There is no limit to hand switches. Workout is scored based on total reps completed for both arms.
Results: 119 reps (12kg)
Wanted to do with 16kg but my left shoulder’s a bit sore. Am not sure why, could’ve been from the dips I did last week. Hope it gets better soon. Jst incase I’m gonna take a break from working out tomm

Nate
In 20 minutes do as many rounds as possible of:
2 Muscle Ups (1 MU = 3 chin ups, 3 dips)
4 Handstand Push Ups
8 Kettlebell Swings @ 32kg
Results: 9 rounds (+6 +3) Blue band and 16kg. Subbed muscle ups for chin ups and ring dips.
Opted to do this workout as I had missed three days of the 100 Pull Ups challenge. Did 18 as part of my warm up and as I had a remainder of 60, I targeted 10 but by round 5 I was already feeling out of breath and the last few reps of pull ups had me squealing like a pig. No wait, it had me swearing like a sailor lost at high seas actually -_-”

Random Ab Workout
For time 50 Sit Ups, 30 Side Plank Raises (L), 50 Sit Ups, 30 Side Plank Raises (R), 50 Russian Twist
Result: 5:45 (16kg)
Woah! Been quite sometime since I did an ab workout. Li Cin and I came up with this random ab workout and man oh man, the side plank raises were an absolute killer. Short but effective….I hope.

Thurs - Sat

The past week has been absolutely crazy. I’ve had shoots & meetings with clients almost every day as well as post-processing to be done on previous shoots. To keep myself sane, I made time for PM as soon as I got back from Krabi on Thurs afternoon. Addict? Nah. Just being a ‘big-orexic’ I guess ;p

Yes. I did my beloved tuck jumps again instead of the double unders. Karen said it’s cause I don’t have the patience to master double unders. She’s right. Hahahaha! :p

WOD04212009
Five rounds for time of:
21 Ring Dips
15 Goblet Squats @ 32 kg
Results: 24:10 (16kg)
Did this workout after approx 10 mins rest from the previous WOD. The ring dips were okay as I used a single blue band throughout but by the second round, my biceps were feeling the pump from the goblet squat. So not funny as I had DOMS on my biceps for nearly 3 days after this workout. Ay caramba!

50 Pull Ups For Time
Results: 7:34
Having missed a couple of days of the pull-ups challenge, I wanted to attempt 100 pull ups to cover back. When I reached 30, I thought to myself, “Fat chance of that happening” :p

Saturday
For time:
Five rounds for time of:
12 Wall Ball @ 20lbs
9 Kettlebell Swings @ 32kg
6 Handstand Push Ups
Results: 12:33 (WB 10lbs, KB 16kg)
Wall balls killed me -____-” And yes, I still had sore glutes and I can’t wear favourite jeans anymore due to the increase of width on my quads and the newfound ‘perkiness’ of my ass -________-”

I Met Danny Today…

…and he is super hardcore. The workout obviously.

Breakfast: Japanese crackers (had wanted to go for breakfast @ the Chinese store, but no time! Bah!) and grabbed a small packet of Loacker after the shoot
Lunch: Grande cappucino (Wheeeeee!) and chicken sandwich from Starbucks
Post workout: A scoop of protein and a can of 100 Plus
Pre Dinner: A fruitnut bar
Supper: Filet o fish meal from McD’s!

Have laid off working on since Wed (when I nearly KO’ed halfway thru’ the workout) and managed to squeeze in an hour plus at PM. Thank goodness cos the next time I can workout would be after my Krabi wedding shoot! Ok I should actually be packing now (and clearing up the disaster zone - my room!) so below’s what I did today (technically yesterday :p)

WOD04202009
“Danny”
Complete as many rounds as you can in 20 minutes of:
30 Box Jumps @ 24″
20 Double KB/DB Push Press @ 24kg
30 Pull Ups
Results: 2 rounds (KB@12kg)
The box jumps killed me. But thanks to tuck jumps :p I can now do the 24″ box jumps but still a bit scared lah :p Contemplated doing 16kg for the Push Press but after trying a couple of reps, decided not to as my left shoulder still feels a bit ermm..weird? from the previous injury when I did high reps of the assisted muscle up. Better safe than sorry! Form for pull ups went haywire towards the last 10 reps as I struggled to go chest to bar. Epic fail -_____-”

Mini Cindy
In 10 minutes, do as many rounds as you can of;
5 Pull Ups
10 Push Ups
15 Squats
Results: 7 rounds + 5 pulls + 7 push ups
Considering the fact that I won’t be working out till end of the week, I did mini Cindy despite the fact that I was bloody tired from Danny. So damn fail too >.< Bah! I'll be back with a vengeance next week when my schedule's not so keraaaazy! I hope :p

Over and out!

Meditra & Linda: Portraits

They searched through Google using the keywords “Awesome. Cool. Funny. Muscular. Humble. Portraiture. Wedding Photographer. Kuala Lumpur” and they found me.

Ok.

So I exaggerate.

And I lied. A bit.

So the only words that they used were “Pre-Wedding Photographer” and “Kuala Lumpur” but still! It’s when I get clients contacting me thanks to Google searches that I realise how much I *heart* technology for making the world so much smaller! wOOt!

Meditra and Linda are both originally from Jakarta with Meditra working in Kuala Lumpur whilst Linda is working in Jakarta. Yes, it’s a long distance relationship! Thanks to the convenience (and sometimes cheap rates!) of Air Asia, they see each other quite regularly. With their wedding looming around the corner, the soon-to-be weds decided on having their pre-wedding photography done in Kuala Lumpur. Putrajaya to be exact.

It was on a sunny, hot, humid Sunday noon that we met up at Putrajaya and I must say, Meditra and Linda were great! Following my advice, they weren’t shy in front of the camera and were up for anything! I love couples who trust me completely during our portrait sessions. It’s great to be able to capture this memorable period of their lives, the period of time before they take their vows to be husband and wife.

Meditra and Linda, despite me putting you two through scorching hot weather, getting your dress dirty for the grass shot :p, making you two jump like mad and getting you drenched in the rain for the last few shots, you two still gave me a tip! Thanks again for that! I bought myself a nice cake for teatime after that. Hehehe…

Have fun during your wedding back in Jakarta and I hope you like the shots below!

Of Yesterday & Today Too :p

I haven’t updated my fitness blog for the past couple of days cause the internet connection has been friggin’ slow! By the time I finish uploading pics for my main blogsite, I couldn’t be bothered to update the fitness site for the seemingly endless waiting is driving me nuts!

Anyway, I didn’t workout on Saturday as I had shoots in the morning and afternoon. Sunday was an absolutely keraaaazy day for me as I had the 11km BHP Orange Run @ 7.30am followed by a shoot in Putrajaya later that day with movie/dinner with friends at night.

Ermm…about the run, it took me 1:23 to complete 11km -_-” Yes, not a very good time but I’m happy to have finished it without feeling like dying. Had my shuffle with me so it was good running with Kings of Leon, 1990’s and Empire of the Sun blaring outta my earphones. Wheeeee~

Moving on to Monday, I felt like shit. I reckon it was a combination of pushing myself too hard on Sunday (with the run, the shoot and the catching up with friends at night :P) as well as getting caught in the rain on Saturday afternoon AND Sunday afternoon. Grrrrr…it got so bad to the extent where I slept with two jumpers on AND turned off the fan as I was shivering my arse off throughout the night.

Waking up on Tuesday I felt a tad bit better. And so I headed to Pushmore and did 2 WODs ;D
WOD 041409
21-15-9 of:
Kettlebell Clean & Press @ 24kg L&R
Knees to Elbows
Results: 16:31 (12kg)

WOD 041309
Five rounds for time of:
21 Sumo Deadlift Highpull @ 24kkg
21 Push Up
Results: 12:29 (16kg)

Felt good after doing the workouts BUT that night (last night), I had the sniffles again! My head tells me not to workout yet my body’s screaming for it. I don’t know why, but I think I might have issues about overdoing things a tad bit. And what am I gonna do about it?

Workout! Yes, I went again today -_-”

WOD 041509
Ten rounds for time of:
12 Pull Ups
12 Wall Balls @ 20lbs
Results: DNF!
Hah! I could only finish off 5 rounds as this time round, I KNEW I was pushing my boundaries waaaaaaaaayyyyyy too much. Felt lightheaded by the second round and thought, “Dammit. It’s just 8 more rounds. DO EEEETTT”. Then by the third round, I thought, “Okay. 5 rounds it is”.

I’ve been editing till late (or should I say, early morning?) the past 2 weeks with an average of 4 - 5 hours of sleep. I think the lack of rest combined with all these ‘wannabe macho’ workouts are starting to get to me.

Yes, I need to take a chill pill.

May San’s Family Portraits

Thanks to a referral from Stephanie, May San recently contacted me to shoot her family portraits. It was a sunny Saturday morning when I dropped by her condo at Segambut where the rest of her family members had gathered for the session.

From the moment I met them, I knew it was gonna be a fun shoot as everyone was joking around and making jibes at each other. You know what they say, family members who make fun of each other are family members who stick together ;) Well, actually I made that up but I find it very true!

May San, I had a blast throughout the session :D Your family members are awesome and I must say, extremely sporting too! Thanks again for having me over, it was my utmost pleasure and I can’t wait to show you the rest of the pictures once they’re all ready. In the meantime, here are some of my fave portraits from the day. See you soon!
