My site was nominated for Best Photography Blog!

Welcome to Anna-Rina’s blogsite (yes, it’s a blog AND a website). I’m a wedding and lifestyle portrait photographer based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

I have had experience covering weddings & portrait sessions not only all over Malaysia but also at overseas locations such as Perth, Singapore, Bali and Krabi. As cliched as this may sound, I feel blessed to have a career that I love with absolute passion as it allows me to meet people from all sorts of background, capturing them at the happiest and most memorable moments of their lives.

This blogsite also serves as a personal journal on my daily (mis)adventures not only as a photographer but as a daughter, friend and workout enthusiast (I’ve even got a separate blog dedicated to tracking my daily workouts. Yes, workout junkie I am >.<)

Do scroll through the above navigation bar to get more details on the photography services that I provide and check out the below blog posts which showcases some of my favourite photos from recent wedding and lifestyle portrait sessions.

Feel free to leave a comment and share some love in this lil’ blogosphere of mine. At least I would know I’m not talking to myself ;) Then again, I do that quite often…..I kid, I kiiid. Have an awesome day ahead and thanks again for dropping by!

WOD 30032009

I’ve registered for the BHP 11km Orange Run which will be on April 11. Participation is FWEEE! Yay!
I’ve not been running for goodness knows how long. Boo!

Breakfast: A packet of Jacob’s biscuit
Lunch: Rice with chicken, fried egg and broccoli. Only 3.80! Chinese coffee shops rock my world! :D
Dinner: Chicken monterey and a mug @ Chilis :p

“J.T”
21-15-9 For time of:
Handstand Push Ups
Ring Dips
Push Ups
Results: 10:12
Last time I did this workout was early January
. Nearly three months down the road, managed to half the time with deeper HSPU and better push up form :D Wheeeee! Now I just need to improve on my dips and go deeper instead of reverting to pussy dips towards the end. Gah.

WOD 03282009
Four rounds for for time:
30 Kettlebell Deadlifts @ 32kg
30 Sit Ups(Unanchored)
250 Rope Skips
Results: 24:22
Maaaaan, I could feel my glutes and lower back working throughout the deadlifts. This WOD was okay except for the skips which reaaaaallly slowed me down >.< Gawdammit! I need to improve on my cardio!

Backlogged

I skipped 2 days of PM (Wed & Thurs) 0.o Fark. It’ll take awhile for me to get back into it next week. Yes I know that it’s okay to take a couple of days off working out. But I’ve got this paranoia that I’ll be totally unfit and my muscles will shrink if I stop working out. My friend Jehan coined the term ‘big-orexia’ and said it applies to me - fear of getting smaller? I think its more of me being super kiasu ;p

Managed to squeeze in a quick workout yesterday morning, but instead of doing WOD03272009 which looks like a killer (and takes a loooong time), I did the following;
WOD 03252009
For time of:
Run 400m
21 Double KB Front Squats @ 24kg
21 Handstand Push Ups
Run 400m
15 Double KB Front Squats @ 24kg
15 Handstand Push Ups
Run 400m
9 Double KB Front Squats @ 24kg
9 Handstand Push Ups
Results: 18:42 (sub Run with 200 skips and KB with 12kg)
Calves were feeling the burn after the first 100 skips, in the next 3 rounds I was mentally forcing myself to not stop after every 30th skip. Transitioning from the skip to the squats were ok as I used 12kgs :p HSPU were fuuuunnn. Can touch my head to the floor for the first 3 reps :D Yayyy! *flexes with joy* ;p

100 Sit Ups for Time
Result: 3 mins

Schweeeemiiinnggg!

Wonders of wonders.

I didn’t workout at PM today. All I did was swim 15 laps in the pool. Didn’t have time to head over to PM :( Boo.

Though it was bloody sunny when I went down for a swim (10ish. Heheh…took a short break from work :p), I nearly froze my ass off in the pool.

Brrrrr…

Lookin’ at the amount of backlogged stuff I’ve got, I don’t think I’ll have time to workout tomm too :( Gah.

WOD 24032009

Breakfast: Cornflakes with soy milk
Lunch: Tuna sandwich with wholemeal bread and a cup of soy latte
Dinner: Steamed chicken thigh, diced carrots and a slice of nutty choc cake :D

“Lynne @ PushMore”
Five rounds for max reps of:
Pull Ups
Ring Dips
Results: (4th and 5th round of ring dips resorted to using single blue band as I wasn’t doing the full form :p)
20 10 13 10 13
15 10 9 10 11
Rushed through this workout as I was in a hurry to attend my first yoga session for 2009 at BeYoga. I think instead of doing pussy dips, I’m gonna use single blue band to improve my strength so that I can move on to full range for dips. Numbers went low after going all out during first round. Bad, bad strategy :p

Though the studio’s not open yet (will be ready mid April), BeYoga’s currently offering free classes so after the short workout at Pushmore, I headed back to Metropolitan Square to attend 1-hour of intermediate ashtanga yoga by Azmi.

There was a lot of chaturangas, downward and upward dogs in between of the poses. I was struggling through most of the poses and my hamstring muscles are sooooo tight! Wasn’t exactly a breeze especially after doing the pull ups and ring dips at Pushmore :p Thanks for joining me Karen :D

This. Is. Hilarious.

Written by Austin & Dara, Santa Barbara based photographers, the Photographer’s Math blog is a daily series of….photographers math(d-oh!), equations related to all things photography. Found the following ones absolutely hilarious (and somewhat true!).

Maxime & Ee Von : Wedding

I met Ee Von a few years ago when we participated in the same episode for a season of Fear Factor Malaysia. Ever since then, we’ve seen each other sporadically at the climbing gym. So it came as a pleasant surprise to me when she called me up sometime last year and told me she was interested in getting me to be her wedding photographer. My first thought was “What? Young Ee Von getting married?”, then I realised that it has been quite sometime and I’m not as young as I constantly think I am ;p

So the day came and I arrived at Ee Von’s parents house as she was getting ready for the morning festivities of ‘chip san liong’ (picking up the bride) and the tea ceremony. With her close friends around her, it was evident that Ee Von was excited, not to mention a tad bit nervous too!

As Max arrived with his huuuuge entourage, Ee Von’s bridesmaids quickly coordinated everything in preparation for the ‘torture’ session and I must say, we got quite a number of pretty interesting pictures then ;) While some of them are only for the viewing pleasure of Max and Ee Von, I’ll share the less risque ones in the slideshow ;p

To the uninitiated, the Chinese tradition of ‘chip san liong’ is basically a few games/hurdles which the groom and his bestmen have to go through before the groom can ‘collect’ his bride. Some games include stuff like the groom or his best men doing push ups, drinking foul concoctions, eating wasabi laden crackers, wearing paper underwear, getting caught in err…compromising? positions.

And that was basically what Max and his group of ‘brothers’ had to go through. They are by far THE MOST sporting group of people that I’ve seen as they willingly did every single thing the bridesmaids asked them to. Salute!

Their tea ceremony was a short and sweet affair and we had some time for quick casual portraits at the basketball court in front of Ee Von’s home. Much thanks to the newlyweds and their bridal party for being so accommodating ;) And yes, I did the cliched jump shots as well but I’ll spare you all by not posting it up here.

The wedding dinner reception was held at the Jaya Palace Restaurant near Menara Axis. The food there was absolutely yummy! I think that’s one of the good things about having a reception at a restaurant instead of a hotel, most of the time you get reaaaally good food. Thanks for such a scrumptious dinner, Ee Von and Max :D

Here are some of my favourite shots from the day. Enjoy!

I was joined by two of my previous clients (and good friend!) Ea Wei and Rudy during the morning tea ceremony. Lady on the right is Adeline, Ee Von’s friend who has top notch Nikon gear! Besides the three of them, I counted at least FOUR other guests with dSLRs (one even had the latest 5D MKII with a 35mm f1.4 lens 0.o). LOL!! It was very interesting experience to be shooting with so many photographers around. Took this shot cos I found it funny that the three of them were chimping at the same time. Heheheeh…

The groom arrives…

While the bride has to wait in her room…

…and gets veiled by her parents…

…the groom and his bestmen, have to go through a number of ‘challenges’ to get to the bride. This includes getting into ‘compromising positions’… ;p

…as well as giving each other piggy back rides and running while doing so (amongst other gnarly challenges :p)

Success! Maxime managed to get to Ee Von ;D

The fun filled tea ceremony :D

Ee Von getting ‘bling-ified’ ;)

A couple of quick portraits with the bridal party before the rain started.

A very enthusiastic ‘flowery’ ;) entry during the dinner reception

The night ended with hearty toasts from the newlyweds…whom if I’m not mistaken lost their voice the following day :p

Maxime and Ee Von, thank you again for having me capture the tea ceremony and reception for you two! It was indeed an honour (and extreme fun!) to be part of the festivities and I wish you newlyweds mutual love, understanding and happiness in the years to come!

WOD03232009

Since I’m tracking my food intake on days that I workout, will start tracking how many stick of cigarettes I smoke as well. And just incase, I’m not encouraging people to pick up smoking, NOT AT ALL. Oh the irony of this after &@*#*@ some other smoker in the previous post :p Changed my mind :p

Breakfast: Roti telur and hot Milo
Post-workout: 2 cans of 100 Plus
Lunch: Seafood noodles and soy drink

Tabata Mash Up!
Eight rounds of:
20 Seconds - Kettlebell Swings @ 24kg, Max Reps
10 Seconds - Rest
20 Seconds - Double Unders, Max Reps
10 Seconds - Rest
*WOD is scored based on total reps completed.
Results: (59, 47) 106 reps (sub TJ’s for DUs)
Tabata workouts are absolutely (and literally!) breathtaking. First two rounds was okay with 10 reps for each exercise. I was breathless for awhile during the third round while I was doing tuck jumps. Yes, I’m still subbing DUs with TJs -___-”. Bah.

WOD03212009 workout from last Saturday
Complete as many rounds as you can in fifteen minutes of:
10 Medicine Ball Cleans
10 Push Ups
Results: 10 Rounds + 3 (10 lbs med ball)
Doing this WOD is not funny when you’ve done nearly 50 tuck jumps beforehand. My legs are soooo gonna feel it tomorrow. Wheeeee!

Demo on the correct form for medicine ball clean

WOD 03202009

Took the weekend off from working out as I had Sunburst to attend on Sat and an event to cover on Sun, which means I only worked out 4 times this week 0.o Gah.

In retrospect, its a good thing as it gives my body enough time to recuperate (and I won’t look like such a fitness junkie to my friends :p). Having said that, going to Sunburst felt like a workout in itself as I was there from 4 pm till 1 am. Fark. That’s even longer than some shoots I’ve done!

Highlight of Sunburst for me was Cosmic Kitchen and Nidji. Am definitely gonna get the albums *cough*or get a copy from Sherrie *cough*! N.E.R.D was fun too. Made me feel like a teenager being surrounded by so many teenagers. Wahahahaha! It was the first time I’ve heard Nidji perform and EVERY SINGLE SONG of theirs was damn good! The lead singer’s rapport with the crowd was excellent as well. Layan, layan :D

The only rant I have about Sunburst is the fact that there were a lot of idiots who were smoking in the mosh pit while the performance was on. Imagine this, you’re smack right in the middle of hundreds, maybe thousands, of people and a bugger lights up his cigarette and you have no choice to not only smell his BO, but take in his second hand smoke as well! %&$@#@!

Nice arrrr smokeeee in a sardine can!?!?!?!!? Pic shot with Sherrie’s nifty lil Panasonic LX2.

Hey, I smoke too (yes, its a bad bad habit) but I sure as hell don’t light up in enclosed areas cause I respect (sorta) non-smokers. Be more considerate you buggers!! Use your bwaaainnnns!!

Ok, now that I’ve gotten that outta my system, below was my workout from Friday :p

WOD 03202009
150 KB Snatches @ 24kg
Results: 12:00 (12kg)
Was a bit slow with the transition, most prob cos it’s been a while since I last did a snatch…..that sounded kinda wrong -_____-”. Could feel my quads working throughout and my forearms as well. Might need to up the weights next time.

3 rounds of
20 Get up Sit up
20 KTEs
30secs of Hollow Rock
Results: 11:25
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This is an awesome total ab workout. Killer, but awesome.

Foldees!

My regular lunch buddy Chak is one of the founders for Foldees, an online card company that runs regular contests to encourage designers from ALL over the world to submit original cool card designs. Shortlisted designs are then put up on the site where public can vote for the best ones which will in turn be printed and sold online! I guess you could say Foldees is the card version of threadless (which I love, love, love for their witty designs!).

Anyway, I was recently at his place to pick out some cards for friends and upon seeing these awesome designs, decided to blog about them just cause they are oh so awesome!

I got the card below for Sherrieberrie the Musictionairie cos it’s so apt! “Earplugs out please” by Jordan Too

And the one below for Nee On. So farneeee! (Yes, I’m all for lameness!) “Cake Me to Your Leader” by design by a guy (yes, that’s what the designer called himself :p)

I didn’t buy the ones below, but cos they tickled my fancy, I just had to take a pic of the cards and share them here with you :D

For those who plan on getting this card for their crush, all I can say is, “Godspeed!” ;p “Please Say Yes” by milkberry

Saw this & immediately went “Awww, shooo cuuute! Wish I had a crush on someone now so that I could give them this card”. Chak’s reaction? “-______- WTF??” LOL!!
“You Are So Cute” by milkberry

I’m sooooo gonna get this card for someone’s birthday. It’s soooo meeee :p “The Birthday Machine” by salchipunk

Of course, not all the designs were to rave for. So drop by foldees site and check out the rest yourself. After seeing some of the cool designs there, I’ve decided to start sending cards out during birthdays instead of email :D What?  I should save trees by just sending out an email instead? Sorry, you can’t use that excuse on me for all Foldees cards are printed on environment-friendly paper. Nyeh nyeh nyeh nyeh nyehhh!

Here’s to a great weekend ahead :D

WOD 03192009

Brunch: Chicken thigh with sliced carrots, 2 meatballs and some chips. 2 cuppa coffee 0.o followed by an ice cream cone :p
Dinner: Tuna sandwich on wholemeal bread with capsicum and tomatoes plus potato wedges on the side. 2 pints :D

WOD 03192009
3 Rounds for time of:
Run 800m
30 Knees-To-Elbows(KTE)
30 Kettlebell Deadlift @ 32kgs
Result: 32:32
I think I started this workout around 5 plus when it was still sunny. It was so hot to the extent where I could feel the heat radiating from the road even during the first round. Thought I should’ve waited till it was cooler to start but since I was already halfway through the first lap, decided to continue on. Did KTE’s on the bar for the first round, but on the rings for the second round. It was only then that I realised it’s soooo much easier to do on the rings whereas I’ve been doing it on the bar all this while -_____-” Fail.

WOD 02262009
5 rounds of:
MAX REPS of handstand push ups
MAX HOLD of L-Sit (instead of L, I did knee ;p)
Result: 23 | 25 | 23 | 25 | 23 reps
56 | 53 | 52 | 60 | 46 seconds
My HSPU’s have improved compared to the previous time I did this, but funnily enough, the timing for my knee-sits were cut down.
